There is a place for you

We create opportunities for people to come together, for neighbors to connect, for individuals to make a difference—for everyone to work together to make an impact on our region.

Chevron’s annual Khakis and Collars program provides a new school uniform to nearly 1,500 Neighborhood Centers Inc. community center members and Charter School students every year. Chevron not only donates the uniforms for this event, but also provides hundreds of volunteers throughout the year to assist in various efforts across Houston. Since 1999, Chevron has contributed more than $1.3 million to support community transformation in our neighborhoods.

Connie Gregory says the Neighborhood Centers’ Adult Day Center did a lot for her husband; so when he passed away, she decided to dedicate her time volunteering there. “It makes me feel like I’m contributing and making a difference. That’s the kind of person I am. I like to give back,” she beams.

In addition to helping at the day center, she also volunteers at the TXU Energy Houston Turkey Trot. She says helping others is just something that comes naturally to her. “It keeps me moving. I’m always thinking about whose life I’m going to impact and who I’m going to make smile.”

Yesenia Monterroza is a model parent and volunteer with our Head Start program.

She has also supported our program in every aspect possible from volunteering in the classroom, leading parent meetings and assisting teachers/staff in a number of ways.

She was instrumental in leading a parent initiative to open a library aimed at increasing family literacy in her community. Through her volunteerism she was able to complete her Child Development Associate (CDA) course.

Currently, she is the Spring Branch Parent Committee Chair in which she is a leader in the center, supporting and recruiting parents and children for our program.
Yesenia has motivated other parents to become leaders and to be engaged in their children’s education.
