Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center Opens in Style

Houston’s cultural richness came to life at the Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center grand opening celebration in September with "the world in your neighborhood" celebration that featured sights, sounds, and flavors from all over the world, and drew a crowd of more than 2,000.

Among them were Susan A. Baker and former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker III –the grandson of Alice Graham Baker, Neighborhood Centers Inc. founder and for whom the center is partly named.

The festivities celebrated not only Houston’s diversity, but also the transformation of the Gulfton and Sharpstown communities to "promise" neighborhoods.

Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center continually garners prominent media attention, including the front-page Houston Chronicle article Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center Opens Era of Promise and a live report on KTRK-TV 13 ABC Your Hometown Live. Watch the clip online
