Angela Answers.
President & CEO, Angela Blanchard answers 5 questions

1. What's the best thing about being CEO of Neighborhood Centers Inc.?

The people I meet. Without question.

Through our donors I know the most generous and selfless people in the city. Through our clients I know the bravest and most hardworking people. Through our staff I know the most mission driven and caring people. I spend all of my time with generous, brave, hardworking and caring people.

Life doesn’t get better than that.

2. What role do you think Neighborhood Centers will play in the future of the Houston?

As we grow in this region, our issues and concerns grow more complex and more interconnected. We have built an organization that can grow as the region grows and evolve as new issues emerge.

That’s good for our city because so many issues have overlapping and intertwining features. Immigration, education, disaster recovery, health access, transportation, economic participation and entrepreneurship – all relate to one another.

At Neighborhood Centers we have a certain amount of fearlessness that is a good thing since some of our biggest challenges may come as surprises. I believe we are a great resource for our region as we continue to respond and meet each challenge with meaningful programs and responsive systems.

3. What is the one thing about Neighborhood Centers you would want people to know?

That we can be counted on to respond. Our board and staff are dedicated to delivering on the promise of our region, no matter what the challenge. So, when people ask "what do you do?" part of our response is "whatever is necessary". I think that approach has kept us fresh and relevant for over 100 years.

4. "Bunny ears" or "loop it and swoop it" - which shoe-tying method is best?

Well, I am left-handed and so is my son - bunny ears works much better with lefties.

5. What is your favorite place in Houston?

Any of our centers on any day, at any time.
