Season of Giving
Neighborhood Centers was celebrating the season of perpetual giving throughout many of its centers in December. From food drives to toy drives, individuals and families were blessed with surprises around the Houston area.
On December 23rd, twenty-two food baskets were delivered door-to-door by the Sharp Center staff and their children to residents of the Anna Dupree Terrace Apartments, an elderly handicapped property. The food drive was organized with the Collaborative for Children’s College Bound program. The children of the Sharp Center supplied, sorted and packed the food for the holiday baskets.
Cleveland-Ripley and TXU partnered for a toy drive for neighborhood children. As a result, hundreds of kids received gifts who otherwise may not have been so fortunate.
Shoes for Christmas were on the list for many Houston-area families. Hundreds of kids were given new shoes as part of Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids. Shoe vouchers were distributed to families at Ripley House and at other neighborhood centers.
Entire families were on the receiving end because of Holiday Connections. The program connected giving families to families in need.
Breakfast with Santa added to the Christmas fun at the Southwest Multi-Service Center. Dozens of children enjoyed breakfast with Santa, fun activities and received a gift.
Other Neighborhood Centers holiday projects included a toy drive by the Rover Project and the Shell Bike Build Day.
