Mayor Bill White and Houston community leaders showcase the vibrant mix of Houstonians during the First Annual Citizenship Week, as the City Celebrates the Many Faces of Houston.
First Annual Citizenship Week focuses on the privileges, rights, responsibilities and obligations of all citizens from the native born to the adoptive Houstonians, i.e. transplants from other cities, immigrants, refugees, foreign students and international residents.
Throughout the week many of the social and economic contributions and accomplishments made by our vast and diverse immigrant refugee population will be highlighted, promoting recognition of and respect of our diversity.
Community events will showcase the many facets of being a Citizen of Houston.
Entertainment will include musical performances from the Houston Grand Opera, an art exhibition by a diverse group of nationally and locally known Houston Artists, and a National Geographic exhibit of photos taken by Houston refugee photographers, many who will be present.
