Neighborhood Tax Centers
Neighborhood Centers Inc. has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service and the Houston Asset Building Coalition to provide free tax preparation to families earning less than $45,000/year.  Our Neighborhood Tax Centers are open convenient hours in locations throughout Houston.  For the 2009 tax season, we need 500 volunteers to reach our goal of preparing 15,000 returns.

Community Centers
Neighborhood Centers Inc. has six community centers in and around the Houston area that provide social programs and services to all ages. Volunteers answer phones, supervise children in the after-school program, tutor students, organize books in the library, play bingo with the senior citizens, teach a class, sort and organize food pantry, distribute food for weekly food fair, pick up food donations or work at a special event. Our community centers are in locations throughout Houston and surrounding areas including Pasadena and La Porte.

Charter School
Neighborhood Centers Inc. Charter School – Ripley Campus is located east of downtown Houston inside the Ripley House Community Center. At the Charter School, volunteers may help the teachers with projects, tutor students, mentor a child, organize books in the library, or serve as the librarian.

Early Head Start/Head Start
We have 26 Early Head Start/Head Start sites in west and southwest Harris County that provide comprehensive early childhood education to toddlers/children up to age 5. Volunteers assist with childcare, assist the teachers with special projects, plan events, serve on the Policy Council or an advisory board, serve as a translator or assist with paperwork.

Senior Centers
We have 20 senior centers in the Houston area which provide meals, exercise, and socialization to many senior citizens. At the Senior Centers, a volunteer may teach a class, play bingo, host a party, chat and entertain.

Youth Programs
Our youth program volunteers chaperone field trips, supervise children in the after-school program, assist with summer camp programs, teach classes, read to children, play games, tutor children and host parties.

Community Events
Community events volunteers plan activities, greet people, help with registration, supervise or work in a booth, serve food, decorate, make goody bags or direct traffic.

Agency Board & Committees
Neighborhood Centers Inc. has an agency board and many committees in which volunteers may bring their expertise to serve our organization. If you are interested in serving on an agency board or committee, please email us. View our current Board of Directors.

Group Volunteer Projects
We provide opportunities for groups such as corporations, churches and high schools to perform volunteer projects such as painting, landscaping, repairing facilities and organizing office supplies.
Some groups prefer to perform soft projects such as reading to children or playing bingo with the senior citizens. Most of these projects occur during National Volunteer Week in the spring or United Ways Days of Caring in the fall; however, we are happy to accommodate a volunteer project any time of year. If you are interested in group volunteer projects, you need only to submit one Volunteer Application.
