Community Centers
Neighborhood Centers Inc. has 6 community centers in and around the Houston area that provide many social programs and services to all ages of a family. Our community centers are in locations throughout Houston and the surrounding areas including Pasadena and La Porte.
Available opportunities at our community centers include:

Sorting and distribute food at food fairs

Teaching a class such as: English as a second language, dance, yoga, financial planning, computer literacy, music, sewing, etc.

Coordinating membership dinners

Conducting a back-to-school supply drive

Assisting with monthly membership mailings and provide administrative support

Assisting with implementing and maintaining community gardens

Assisting with translation both written and spoken
Neighborhood Tax Centers
Join Neighborhood Tax Centers (an IRS VITA program) and provide free income tax preparation for families earning an average of $20,000 a year. Our volunteers give working families a chance to build a financial future by helping them claim tax credits for which they are eligible.

Elementary Charter Schools
Neighborhood Centers Inc. Charter Schools includes Ripley House, located on the east side of downtown Houston inside the Ripley House Community Center and houses K-5th grade. Harbach-Ripley Charter School is located in southeast Houston in the Sunnyside neighborhood and offers K-4th grade. Baker-Ripley Charter School is located in southwest Houston and offers K-2nd grade.

Neighborhood Centers Inc. has 26 Early Head Start/Head Start sites in southwestern Harris County which provide comprehensive early childhood education to toddlers/children 0-5 years of age.
At Early Head Start/Head Start, volunteers may assist with childcare, assist the teachers with special projects, plan an event, serve on the policy council or an advisory board, serve as a translator, or assist with paperwork.

Neighborhood Centers Inc. has 20 senior centers in the Houston area which provide meals, exercise, and socialization to many senior citizens.
Available opportunities at our senior centers include:

Teach/provide craft projects

Instructing and lead an exercise course for seniors

Coordinating social activities such as bingo or dances

Teaching a course such as sewing, dance, computer basics

Quarterly; pick up and deliver food to various senior sites

Hosting a monthly birthday celebration

Collecting craft materials such as yarn, knitting needles, fabric, etc. for various projects

Youth Programs
Neighborhood Centers Inc. has many activities working with school-age children and older youth during the school year and throughout the summer.
Available opportunities within our youth programs include:

Tutoring a child after school with homework

Coordinating special summer events, such as a field day

Coordinating vocational training for teens, such as resume writing, preparing for your first job, completing college applications

Neighborhood Centers Inc. has many special events throughout the year. A volunteer may help plan an event, greet guests, help with registration, supervise or work in a booth, serve food, decorate, or direct traffic.
