Does SFHS provide daycare services to program participants?
No. SFHS refers to Workforce Solutions (formerly Worksource) and other area resources for daycare services.
How is the program funded?
Healthy Start is funded by the Health Resource Services Administration - Maternal Child Health Bureau.
What are the eligibility requirements for SUNNY FUTURES Healthy Start?
To enroll in SFHS you must be between the ages of 15-44, pregnant or parenting and reside in one our ten targeted zip codes: 77004, 77021, 77023, 77300, 77047, 77048, 77051, 77020, 77206, 77029.
Can Healthy Start service other women and families outside of the targeted zip codes?
Yes and No. To officially enroll SFHS, a woman must meet the eligibility requirements listed above. However, SFHS does provide assistance to community participants (who are ineligible or not interested in joining SFHS) by providing referrals to various clinics, social service agencies, and assisting with completion of Medicaid, and CHIP applications.
Additionally, participation in the SFHS Safe Riders Car Seat Safety Classes is open to all low-income families in the Houston area (a car seat safety education program funded the Texas Department of Public Safety that also provides free seats at the completion of the class).
What are the causes of infant mortality?
Infant mortality is defined as the death of a child before his or her 1st birthday (death between the time the take their first breath through the 364th day of life). The leading causes of infant mortality are prematurity, low birth weight, birth defects and SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).
Are SFHS services free?
Yes, ALL SFHS services are free of charge!
