Expanding Citizenship Assistance Immigration & Citizenship Assistance Program Receives a Grant from Houston Endowment
Houston Endowment has awarded a grant of $196,700 to the Neighborhood Centers Immigration & Citizenship program. With the award, we will be able to expand outreach and education capacity, create more civic engagement opportunities and greatly increase the number of Houstonians who are informed, motivated and capable of helping others in the citizenship process.
Neighborhood Centers launched a public awareness campaign in 2006, focusing on the strengths and contributions of immigrants to our society. From this, our Immigration and Citizenship program was formed to provide support for all immigrants. Since 2009, the program included well-attended Immigration and Citizenship Forums, Immigration Services Connection, Citizenship Exam Preparation Education Courses, and more, with a focus on increasing opportunities for cultural exchanges.
The Houston Endowment grant is a vote of confidence in support of our existing immigration and citizenship initiative. The funding will support one year of operations by leveraging existing program activities, resources and partnerships to increase the number of families receiving direct services, and the number of staff and community partners who are capable of serving our city’s thriving immigrant population.
