The contest, “Around the Neighborhood”, called for photos that exhibited elements about what makes Houston unique. The entries showed the neighborhoods, people, landmarks and businesses in Houston. Entrants were allowed to submit multiple photos, and even photos from camera phones.

The contest ran for a month and a half, and resulted in 151 entries from 41 contestants.

Judging was conducted by a panel of long-time Houstonians, including Houston City Council Member Sue Lovell, KHOU Reporter Alex Sanz, Houston business owner Linda Limb, and Neighborhood Centers’ President and CEO, Angela Blanchard.

While there was no entry fee to submit your photos, many of the entrants chose to make donations in support of Neighborhood Centers.

Winners of the contest as well as other entries may be included in a future gallery displayed at the new Baker-Ripley Neighborhood Center in the Gulfton/Sharpstown neighborhood. The community center is set to open later this year.
