Health Fairs Provide Healthy Start to the New School Year
Thousands of children and parents got a healthy jump start to the new school year at the annual Neighborhood Centers Back-to-School Health fair series. School supplies, nutrition and wellness information, health screenings, vaccines, and fun exercise activities were provided free-of-charge at the six-event series.

The series kicked off July 31 at Ripley House Neighborhood Center, where more than 4,000 individuals lined the entire block in anticipation of the event. The series continued with fairs at Cleveland-Ripley, Baker-Ripley, and Harbach-Ripley Neighborhood Centers. Fair participants enjoyed traditional activities such as face painting, music, and door prizes, as well as the new We Can! Children’s Zone (We Can stands for Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition), which promotes healthy weight for children by demonstrating fun ways to stay physically active.
Though the final tally isn’t yet in, this year’s health fair series is expected to surpass last year’s participation rate of 12,000 individuals and 3,000 health screenings.
