BP Partners with Neighborhood Centers to Help Hurricane Victims

BP takes its commitment to community seriously – especially in trying times such as those following the unwelcome arrival of Hurricane Ike.  External Affairs Manager Iris Cross recently presented a $50,000 check to Neighborhood Centers President and CEO Angela Blanchard (center) and Vice President of Development Emelda Douglas (right) to help people who still are recovering from the storm.

“We are proud to partner with you to help meet the long-term recovery needs of families directly impacted by Hurricane Ike,” Cross said. “This grant will help families move toward the next stage in the recovery process.”

Through our Stay Connected program, Neighborhood Centers is working with thousands of families in the Texas Gulf Coast region to help them develop recovery plans and work through the challenges they face. For some families, direct assistance with expenses such as furniture, household items or transportation helps them move one step closer to recovery.

“We are deeply grateful for BP’s financial investment, yet their commitment runs deeper than just the dollars,” Douglas said. “BP volunteers were instrumental in distributing basic supplies to our neighbors immediately after the storm’s landfall, helping with home deliveries, and assisting our Stay Connected caseworkers with telephone assessments.”
